Penguin Group (USA) Internship – Summer 2012

A paid summer internship opportunity is available from Penguin Group (USA) to provide an interested undergraduate student member of Sigma Tau Delta with experience in the publishing industry. Job responsibilities may involve editing, design, and marketing, among other possibilities.

The Sigma Tau Delta/Penguin Group (USA) Summer Internship will run ten consecutive weeks at 375 Hudson Street, New York, NY,10014. Exact dates will be determined by agreement between the recipient and Penguin Group (USA). The recipient will work 28 hours per week, earning $7.25 per hour. For the 2012 summer internship, Sigma Tau Delta will provide the recipient an additional $1,500 stipend to assist with travel and housing expenses.

Individual colleges and universities may arrange for academic credit for the internship but that must be worked out between the student and her/his university.

The recipient of the internship will be responsible for securing and paying for housing as well as other expenses. Each applicant must be prepared to accept the internship and its conditions if it is awarded to her/him. Failure to do so may jeopardize the continuation of the Penguin Group (USA) summer internship program for Sigma Tau Delta.

Scope of the 2012 Internship

Penguin Group (USA) has a wonderful opportunity for a summer internship in one of their editorial departments. The intern may assist with the following:

  • Reading and evaluating manuscripts
  • Writing readers reports and rejection letters
  • Researching permission requests, attending meetings, and preparing manuscripts for transmittal
  • Administrative duties including mailings, filing, updating the submission logs, and routing materials

Better World Books Internship – Summer 2012

A paid summer internship opportunity is available from Better World Books to provide an interested undergraduate student member of Sigma Tau Delta with experience in a variety of areas in social enterprise and the online book industry. The Sigma Tau Delta/Better World Books Summer Internship will run six consecutive weeks beginning in early June. The recipient will work 30 hours per week, earning $10 per hour, in Alpharetta, Georgia, in the Atlanta metro area. For the 2012 summer internship, Sigma Tau Delta will provide the recipient with an additional $1,500 stipend to assist with travel and housing expenses.

Individual colleges and universities may arrange for academic credit for the internship; however, that must be worked out between the student and her/his university.

Each applicant must be prepared to accept the internship and its conditions if it is awarded to him or her. Failure to do so may jeopardize the continuation of the Better World Books summer internship program for Sigma Tau Delta.

Scope of Work

  • Serve as the community relationship manager responsible for building and maintaining Sigma Tau Delta’s partnership through research, focus groups, and new media.
  • Evaluate satisfaction with current programs.
  • Collect and organize new ideas and opportunities for improvement.
  • Research trends in sustainability and environmental literacy on college campuses.

Interested undergraduate student members of Sigma Tau Delta must submit via email a one-page resume, contact information for two academic references, and a cover letter addressing the applicant’s interest in social enterprise, book R and R (reuse and recycling), and literacy. Applicants are highly encouraged to submit media (photos, video, articles) and stories from their chapter’s book drive. Attachments must be titled in the order of last name, first name, and topic title (example: Smith.John.Resume.doc). Students applying for the summer internship must have participated in one BWB book drive.
